Restriction digests of the clone give the following sizes (kb): PstI--3.8, 1.4, 0.66; EcoRI--5.9; ClaI--4.4, 1.48; AvaI--3.3, 2.6; BamHI--5.9. The insert encodes amino acids 809-1451 of the alpha-2-microglobulin gene. Codominant segregation of the BglII polymorphism demonstrated in 2 families. Codominant segregation of the PvuII polymorphism demonstrated in 5 families. Codominant segregation of the HinfI polymorphism demonstrated in 5 families (35 individuals). Codominant segregation of the PvuII polymorphism demonstrated in 2 families (20 individuals). HaeIII, HinfI and PuvII RFLPs are independent mutations. Enzyme(s) not detecting polymorphism (in a panel of 5): BamHI, HincII, RsaI, HindIII, MspI, PstI. Enzyme(s) not detecting polymorphism: AvaII, BamHI, EcoRV, StuI, AluI, NciI, MspI, PstI.
